ICYMI: In September Change Consulting partnered with the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education to host a powerful convening for journalists and community leaders on covering crime and safety in Oakland. Bay Area reporters, editors, educators, and local leaders discussed what community safety means for Oaklanders and explored new research. The event featured panels on Comparative Community Survey Research, a Community Panel moderated by our CEO Bilen Mesfin Packwood, and a Journalists Panel moderated by Professor Lisa Armstrong of UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. Click here for a detailed recap of the event.

The bill would replace the current registration system with one that automatically registers eligible individuals to vote during transactions at the DMV. Voter turnout is more important than ever this November, and this bill is designed to make sure that California’s electorate matches the diversity and demographics of the state. For more, listen to This is the State of California with KCBS Radio’s Patti Reising, Bret Burkhart, and Doug Sovern, as well as Christopher Wilson, vice president of PowerPAC and member of the California Grassroots Democracy Coalition.
