We’re all in for Kamala Harris and data from the 2023 Black Census Project support this notion. This week, the Black Futures Lab (BFL) hosted a virtual press briefing detailing the results of the largest survey of Black people in the United States since the Reconstruction era, successfully engaging over 200,000 Black people. A vast majority of Black Americans trust Kamala Harris and distrust Donald Trump – 71% compared to 5%, indicating that the presumptive Democratic nominee may have a higher chance of winning over Black voters than the Republican candidate.
According to the research, Black voters are also concerned about low wages, gun violence and schools. To learn more, read the full 2023 Black Census Project executive summary, this article in The Guardian, or watch the full press briefing.
With a little over 100 days until the presidential Election, Asian American Women’s Political Initiative (AAWPI) is also working to mobilize communities by launching the “AAPI Women Fighting to Win” fund to turn out women in critical swing states like Georgia and Pennsylvania. The ultimate goal is not only to elect the first Black and Asian American woman president, but also to increase the number of elected officials across the country who are Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs). We are devastated by another act of police violence, violating the sanctity of a Black woman’s home, and taking her life instead of providing the help that she called for. Sonya Massey deserved safety. Sonya Massey should be alive today. Please visit the GoFundMe that was created in Sonya’s honor. Let’s do what we can to support her family as we also fight for justice for Sonya and countless others who have been killed by police.
