“When I see these attacks on DEI, I empathize with students losing opportunities nationwide,” writes  Evan Malbrough, a member of the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies’ Black Youth Worker Task Force. Evan shared his thoughts on why we  need to change the narratives around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in America in this Rolling Out editorial. Evan highlighted the Improving Policy Narratives for Young Black Workers project, a collection of 13 messaging principles developed from insights Change Consulting helped gather from our work with the task force of 11 young Black workers, focus groups with their peers, and a thorough media analysis. This summer, the Brotherhood of Elders of Network (BOEN) collaborated with the East Oakland Youth Development Center (EOYDC) to develop and implement a career exploration program  for youth ages 14-26. The Rise East youth internship program works to reduce redundancies, address inequities, and offer holistic, culturally resonant support for young people in East Oakland. Youth were matched with the internship opportunities that were most compatible with their skills, experience, interests, and availability. See here for more on Rise East and their youth internship program.
