“It’s about our young people being able to step into that leadership and in those capacities on their own, not in a tokenized way, not in a way that is exploitative or extractive, but in a way that honors their brilliance and leans into means to trust them and their wisdom in this very critical moment that impacts their lived experiences,” said Monique Couvson, president and CEO of Grantmakers for Girls of Color, a philanthropic intermediary that invests in the leadership of girls and gender-expansive youth of color and a longtime Change Consulting partner. Monique is one of TIME’s 2025 Closers, a series highlighting 25 Black leaders who are working to close racial equity gaps. Listed as a Healer, Monique wants society to better understand Black girls. To kick start our year, the Change Consulting team came together for Change U, an annual virtual retreat we hold to refocus and regroup. Together, we reviewed our goals for 2025, solidified action plans to hold ourselves accountable to taking action towards those goals, and made plans to better support our clients and our team. We also renewed our spirits and commitment to advancing racial justice and equity by taking a moment to ground ourselves, address the political climate, and partake in a dance break as a form of expression and release. We are grateful for the time together and ready as ever to take on 2025!
