We are thrilled to share that Rebecca Farmer has joined Change Consulting as Vice President of Media Relations. I am excited to have Rebecca lead our media relations work, which is one of our core service areas in our work to drive media narratives; gain visibility for good leaders, organizations, and causes; and shape hearts and minds.
Rebecca comes to this role as a senior communications leader with over two decades of experience maximizing strategic communications and media relations to advance social justice. Her work is centered on amplifying advocacy efforts to promote fairness, equality, and human rights, with a particular expertise in media relations and narrative-building.
“I’m a bridge builder between change makers and journalists — a match maker of sorts. I love helping social justice advocates tell their stories to amplify their impact,” said Rebecca. “It’s an honor to help spotlight the ways people are fighting back against rampant racism and xenophobia of all kinds and building a better world.”
Her background spans a range of issue areas. Including criminal justice reform, reproductive justice, digital privacy, LGBTQ equality, education equity, and economic justice. She previously served as the Director of Communications at Movement Advancement Project, ACLU of Northern California, and the State Bar of California.
Rebecca has secured earned media coverage in top national outlets, including The New York Times, CNN, and NPR, while also working closely with journalists at targeted regional and local outlets. She has prepped hundreds of spokespeople for high-profile interviews and media appearances, ranging from nonprofit executives to community activists. Additionally, she has written and placed impactful op-eds for dozens of organizations in prominent media outlets.
As a consultant, Rebecca partnered with a range of social change organizations, including Chinese for Affirmative Action, Freedom for All Americans LGBTQ+ nondiscrimination campaign, Southern Poverty Law Center, and Working Partnerships USA. She is also a previous Rockwood Leadership Institute LGBTQ fellow.
Outside of work, Rebecca enjoys nature walks, pottery lessons at a local studio, and eating excellent food.
