We are so thrilled to have worked with the National Black Worker Center (NBWC) to launch their new website! NBWC unites Black workers; it serves as the go-to source for sharing insight into the discrimination that Black workers face and amplifies solutions to end anti-Blackness in the workplace. We are proud to have supported the revamping of the organization’s website to demonstrate NBWC’s impact and commitment to addressing issues affecting Black workers. Check out the new look here

This week, Change Consulting partnered with the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education to host a powerful convening for journalists and community leaders on covering crime and safety in Oakland. Bay Area reporters, editors, educators, and local leaders discussed what community safety means for Oaklanders and explored new research. Our CEO, Bilen Mesfin Packwood, moderated the community panel with Tinisch Hollins of Californians for Safety and Justice, Nicole Lee of Urban Peace Movement, and Thu Quach of Asian Health Services. Professor Lisa Armstrong of UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism moderated a journalist panel that included David DeBolt of East Bay Times, Julian Glover of ABC7 News Bay Area, Marisa Lagos with KQED, and Roselyn Romero with the Oaklandside. Thanks to the Maynard Institute, Baywell and Asian Health Services for partnering with us on this powerful event. Let’s continue to change the story on community safety and other issues that impact Black communities and communities of color.

Californians are urging Governor Gavin Newsom to sign the California New Motor Voter Program (SB 299) into law. The bill would automatically register individuals who are eligible to vote when they submit documents to the DMV for a license or otherwise. We supported members of the California Grassroots Democracy Coalition in driving an earned media strategy to get the bill through the legislature, and now urge the Governor to sign the bill into law and eliminate  barriers to voting.
