CLIENT NEWS:

Alameda County Housing and Community Development is pioneering a first-of-its-kind approach to affordable housing through its SHIFT pilot program, streamlining development with pre-approved, scalable designs for infill sites. “We’re trying to build affordable housing more affordably, and so we’re trying to do a bunch of different things at once to figure out where we can save the most money,” said Dylan Sweeney, the program and policy manager for Alameda County Housing and Community Development Agency. Her latest game, developed with fellowship support, translates the existential distance of being far from home into an interactive experience that invites reflection and conversation. Earlier this week, our CEO, Bilen Mesfin Packwood, attended the 5th anniversary celebration of the Black Freedom Fund and it was an inspiring reminder of just how far this work has come. What began in 2020 as a series of early conversations about launching a $100 million fund to support Black power building California has grown into a powerful, independent institution – the first Black community foundation in the state. It is truly beautiful to witness the impact of years of commitment, collaboration, and belief in what’s possible.
