Akonadi Foundation and the Kenneth Rainin Foundation
In 2018, Akonadi Foundation and the Kenneth Rainin Foundation released the benchmark report Mapping Small Arts and Culture Organizations of Color in Oakland, which outlined how Oakland’s grassroots arts and culture organizations strengthen our community; help shape government, institutional policies, and practices towards racial justice; and why funders must increase support for these vital community assets. Change Consulting worked with the researchers behind the report to translate their findings into communications materials that would maximize media interest and get priority audiences to pay attention. Our earned and digital media strategy included messaging, frequently asked questions, social media graphics, Twitter and Facebook posts, and e-blasts to announce the new report and encourage additional organizations to participate in a survey to continue the next phase of research phase on the project. Our efforts resulted in more than 100 additional organizations participating in the survey; radio segments on KCBS and KQED; and Nonprofit Quarterly and Inside Philanthropy produced online features about the report. In addition, the report was selected as a 2019 American Business Awards Gold Stevie Winner with judges noting the “impressive communication platform.”
